I’ve been drawing floor plans since 1976.   As an architect, I’ve been drawing them since 1984.  If you live in the Northern Virginia area, there’s a good chance that you’ve walked through a store I was an architect for.  Over a 25 year span at Rounds VanDuzer Architects I drew literally thousands of drawings for stores in the region.

Now, that I’m a professional photographer, I still enjoy the occasional drafting job.  Although online services like Cubicasa, Matterport, and Zillow do an amazing job drawing floor plans, I often find that their measurements are off by over a foot.  For this reason, it’s always good to have a professional eye to look things over.

If you order a floor plan from me, I will bring my own laser meter to verify room dimensions so that there are no surprises.

CubiCasa Floor Plans

My preferred system these days is CubiCasa because they provide a means for adjusting the plans that they provide, and have several nice options.

Lite Floor Plan

Cubicasa’s Basic floor plan simply shows the layout.  This option does not show doors, fixed furniture (ie. cabinetry), or plumbing fixtures.

Plus Floor Plan

The CubiCasa Plus Floor Plan Can be provided  in either black and white, or colors based on three basic  room functions: bedroom, bathroom, or general living space (kitchens, living rooms, dining rooms, etc.).

It also shows doors, plumbing fixtures, appliances, and cabinetry.

They are also available with or without room dimension labels, and with or without room square footage.

3D Floor Plan

An upgrade to the CubiCasa floor plan is their 3D floor plan showing furniture and cabinetry.  In a top – down 3D view.

They generally try to match the existing furniture, but if a room is currently used as an office, but can be used as a bedroom, they will show a tidy bedroom rather than a cluttered office.

Architectural Floor Plans

If you’re looking for a more professional looking floor plan with dimension lines this option is available as well.  I measure and draw these myself by hand to the level of detail and accuracy you specify.  Notice that dimension lines more clearly indicate where the dimensions are measured to than simple room labels.
